National Lockdown: KAL customer update

Please accept KAL’s apologies for the lack of communication to our customers since the government announcement that leisure centres can reopen from the beginning of December.

We have been in discussion with Kirklees Council regarding the urgent need to develop vaccination and testing facilities in Kirklees, and the potential that KAL facilities and support may be required in this process.

We are pleased to announce that all KAL facilities that were open at the point of lockdown will reopen at their normal opening times from Thursday 3rd December with the exception of:

  • Colne Valley Leisure Centre
  • Batley Sports and Tennis Centre
  • Leeds Road Playing Fields
  • Spenborough Track.

However, we are pleased to confirm that the above centres will now reopen from their normal time on Monday 7th December 2020.

(Deighton Sports Arena and Batley Baths and Recreation Centre had not yet reopened and will remain closed at present.)

The roll out of vaccination and testing facilities in Kirklees is under constant review and although these facilities may be required to support this programme in the future, for now we are simply pleased to be able to open these two further sites.

Please accept our apologies for the delay in opening these sites, however we hope customers can appreciate the changing situation and the need to ensure support for vaccination and testing facilities is prioritised.

(Deighton Sports Arena and Batley Baths and Recreation Centre had not yet reopened and will remain closed at present.)

In addition to this, as Kirklees will be coming out of the lockdown into Tier 3, restrictions for Tier 3 areas mean that KAL will also, sadly, be unable to provide any fitness classes at any of the open facilities.

To help support the physical and mental wellbeing of our customers, we will continue to offer YourKAL, a brand-new live streaming and on demand service via the KAL app.  KAL would like to encourage our customers to please make use of this service, which will continue to provide a range of fitness classes for customers to enjoy. Further information on how to make use of YourKAL can be found at YOURKAL

Bookings for the facilities opening on Thursday 3rd December will go live by 5pm on Wednesday 2nd December, online and via the app

Bookings for the facilities opening on Monday 7th December will go live by 10am on Friday 4th December, online and via the app

Again, KAL would like to sincerely apologise for the late announcement and release of bookings due to the ongoing discussions that have been required around reopening.

We understand customers will have queries regarding their payments and subscriptions; please see the following information in relation to specific products.

If you are a Fitness member, KAL KLUB swimming lesson customer or KAL Swim Performance member - Your membership will be reinstated from 3rd December and payments will recommence from 8th December.

This is with the exception that, again, due to Kirklees being in Tier 3, KAL Swim Performance members who are 18 years & above, including Masters and Masters +, cannot be provided with swim coaching sessions; these memberships will remain frozen until further notice.

Direct Debit Customers

KAL appreciate that some customers, due to wider circumstances may not wish to have their membership live / feel ready to come back just yet. Therefore, you will be able to choose to extend your freeze by 1, 2 or 3 months

If you are a Direct Debit member and pay on the 8th of the month and you wish to remain on freeze, please email by 7th December stating 1, 2 or 3 months freeze. Again, we would like to apologise for the very short timescales, but, due to DFC requiring time to prepare the necessary information to send to your bank, we will be unable to stop this payment. If a payment is taken from you in error please do not cancel your Direct Debit, as we will arrange a credit for you if you would like to freeze.

If you are a Direct Debit member and pay on 1st, 15th or 25th of the month and you wish to remain on freeze, you must log into the DFC portal to request this by 7th December.

DFC, our Direct Debit provider, will then send you an email to confirm they have received your request. If you do not receive this please email DFC on by the above date. You will need to quote your DFC reference detailed at the top of this letter. Please do not email KAL your freeze request as all Direct Debit customers must freeze via the DFC portal.

Please be aware If you have cancelled your Direct Debit or your membership has an overdue balance, please contact our Customer Service Team to resolve this issue as the portal will not be able to process your freeze request.

If you had already requested a freeze with us prior to our facilities closing in November, you do not need to re-request this; your existing freeze will be applied as agreed.

Annual Paying Customers - If you pay for your fitness membership with a one-off annual payment your renewal date will be amended accordingly on renewal via an extension.  If you wish to extend your freeze on your annual membership please email by 7th December stating if you require 1, 2 or 3 months freeze.
