Welcome to 'KAL HOME WORKOUTS'
During this challenging time we have been working hard to provide you with a range of wellbeing advice, competitions, fun family activities, home workouts on social media as well as a range of other on-line material to keep you mentally and physically active at home.
Whether you are self-isolating, on Furlough, home schooling or working from home, you are probably looking for things to keep active? We have had some great feedback about the videos from KAL’s group fitness instructors and Les Mills on Demand, and we wanted to give you even more choice, so we have created KAL@Home -
KAL@Home is an online exercise tool that helps you create workouts or choose from a pre-set workout. Online instructions will help you through the whole workout, and even better you can pause it at any time and play when you’re ready.
It is a simple tool to help keep you active at home while in lockdown.
Here are 3 reasons why keeping active is so important;
Reduce your risk of health conditions
There is a huge amount of evidence that links being fit and healthy to a reduction in conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke and some cancers.
The current guidelines recommend adults should take part in 150 minutes of physical activity a week. The intensity of this activity will be different for everyone, but as a basic guide this should be anything that raises your heart rate, breathe quicker and feel your temperature rise. A good example from the NHS is that you “should still be able to talk, but not sing the words to a song”.
Improve your mental health
As with your physical health, the benefits of exercise on a person’s mental health is also well documented. It can help to reduce stress, anxiety, depression and help with sleep conditions.
The sense of achievement people get from completing an activity can help boost their self esteem and general sense of wellbeing.
Gives you a focus
During our current situation exercise could help keep you in a routine or at least give you some focus for the day. So whether that is getting up and working out straight away, planning in some outdoor activity such as a walk or bike ride to get you outside or, if you’re working from home, it can give you an excuse to get away from your screen.
Exercising with people in your household can be a good thing to do together too and you will motivate each other and enjoy the benefits together.
When we’re all back in our offices and workplaces using your lunchbreak to be active, where possible can really help boost your concentration and mood in the afternoon so try and keep those good habits going.
We hope you enjoy KAL@Home and the benefits of keeping active.
